The candidate will work directly with the binding authority underwriting team and will have direct responsibility for handling customer service requests from both retail agents customer and in‐house employees via phone, email, and in person. This role consists of a 30 month training and development program that will prepare the participant to become a sales professional. The focus of the training program will be increasing new submissions, quotes and premium through the promotion of web-based, telephone & email submission models. The primary focus is to drive commercial & personal lines business development, to build strong relationships with key agents and to identify and cultivate new opportunities.

The candidate has direct responsibility for new business production, management of customer relationships, and key renewals with agency customers. The primary focus is to drive commercial & personal lines business and to build strong relationships with key agents to identify and write new commercial lines accounts. Accounts pertaining to other lines of business would be referred to other members of the production team (e.g. Professional Liability, Personal Lines, etc.).

Each summer, DeCotis Insurance Associates, Inc. takes a select few college students in their Junior or Senior year to participate in a Surplus Lines Internship Program. The applicant pool is very large and highly competitive and as such, we are very selective on who we invite into our family each year. The work is fast paced, rigorous and challenging, but the exposure to the surplus lines industry is exemplary.

Quick Facts:

  • We arrange and pay for housing for the duration of the internship (usually 8 – 12 weeks)
  • There is a weekly stipend
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing and have a valid driver’s license
